Shoes of Solidarity: Honoring the Victims of the Boulder Attack

In the wake of the horrific firebombing attack on peaceful protestors in Boulder, our hearts are heavy. This brutal act left 12 people injured, eight of whom were hospitalized, with two airlifted to a burn unit. The victims ranged in age from 52 to 88 years old. One of them—a Holocaust survivor—has now endured unspeakable violence twice in a lifetime.

The victims were gathered in peaceful protest, standing in solidarity for the release of Jewish hostages, when hate was returned for hope.

In response, and in honor of the victims and their message, the Montezuma County Republican Central Committee (MCRCC) will be creating a "Shoes of Solidarity" window display at our headquarters. Each of the 12 pairs of shoes will represent one of the injured, accompanied by a heartfelt message of support and remembrance.

This display is more than symbolic. It’s a declaration:

We stand for peace. We stand against violence. We stand with the victims.

Let us respond to hate with unity and to violence with compassion.

Together, we can show that even in small, rural communities, we rise up in support of those who suffer and stand firm in our values of freedom, dignity, and peace.

—Lenetta Shull Chair of Montezuma County Republican Central Committee
